Experience

Lynette M. Smith owns and operates ALL MY BEST Business and Nonfiction Copyediting. She is experienced in editing many different types of copy, ranging from advertising and marketing collateral to trade journals, statistical publications, proposals, business plans and websites.

Lynette-Smith-Proofreading-and-Copy-Editing-Expert

Since 2003, as a freelancer she has copyedited marketing collateral, company and association newsletters, how-to and other nonfiction articles, local newspaper columns, technical articles and reports, industry surveys and their results, master's theses and doctoral dissertations, résumés and business bios, job descriptions, procedure manuals, user manuals and book manuscripts.

From 1997 through 2002, as sole editor for an award-winning monthly 16-page trade journal, she copyedited articles for authors who had widely varying levels of writing experience, bringing consistency to the publication without sacrificing any author's unique style. For the journal, she wrote monthly news columns, occasional how-to feature articles, and the periodic column, "Get a Grip … on Grammar!"—source of many of the free writing tips that appear elsewhere on this website.

Concurrently, Lynette edited the association's six industry manuals and wrote two of them personally. She designed an annual survey of member pricing, compiling and publishing the results; and she compiled and published an annual summary of membership statistics. Further, as an aspect of the members' benefits, she copyedited and critiqued their marketing collateral, including their websites.

From 1980 through 1996, as sole owner/operator of Qualitype Editing and Word Processing, she worked with authors, graduate students, teachers, business professionals and private individuals, learning through client surveys that repeat clients valued her copyediting skills above all.

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Lynette self-published and marketed six popular industry booklets relating to business start-up, policies, estimating, marketing, client relations and more. In the 1990s, Lynette served as a small-business-expo panelist, made presentations at several annual industry conventions and conducted how-to workshops for aspiring business-support-service owners, many of whom individually later hired her as a business consultant.
